The book presents an account of mangrove forest ecosystem, its structure and function. Mangroves are littoral plant formation found in tropical and sub-tropical countries and occurs on the margins of oceans and estuaries. In this book all the aspects of mangrove forest have been discussed. The biodiversity, floristic composition and taxonomy have been enumerated very nicely. The loss of mangrove forest and its conservation and management aspects have been given in details. A case study of mangrove forests of Andaman islands and South Japan has been documented in details.This is very good book for those who are working on mangrove ecology, taxonomy, physiology and coastal ecology.

作者简介

V.P. Singh

V.P. Singh is Retd Professor & Head, Department of Plant Sciences (IEMPS), Vikram University, Ujjain (M.P.). He obtained his M.Sc. (1966) and Ph.D. (1971) from Vikram University, Ujjain (M.P.), specializing in Forest ecology, Mangrove ecology, Metal toxicity. He has had a brilliant academic carrier followed by over 36 years of teaching and conducting research in Botany at postgraduate as well as research levels. Dr. Singh has guided 25 Ph.D. students and Published 125 research Papers in National and International periodicals. He is also an author of 11 books in his own specialized fields. He has attended and participated in many seminars, workshops and conferences. Presently he is engaged in the work on the Medicinal Flora of Western Madhya Pradesh.

K. Odaki

Prof. Kazuo Odaki is a Director of Ecology Research Laboratory, Chiba Japan. He was born in 1925 at Chiba prefecture. At early age, he was senior high school teacher in Chiba and did this profession for nearly 40 years. After retirement, he worked nearly 10 years at “Greening Centre of Chiba City” to teach people for “Conservation of Nature”. Dr. Odaki has worked nearly 25 years on ecology of mangrove of Japan, visited all mangrove forests of Southern Japan and India. His books “Ecological Notes of Mangroves” is a one of the best books on mangroves, wrote many books on nature and visited many mangrove areas of the world.
