Lucian (circa 125-after 180)
Lucian, also k nown as Lucian of Samosata, was a Syrian-Greek writer born in the capital of the former kingdom of Commagene, which was absorbed by the Roman Empire and made part of the province of Syria (now modern Turkey). Lucian was a rhetorician and satirist noted for his witty and scoffing nature.
