Jason slipped into the hallway and walked quickly toward the nearest exit.

“Jason,” Milo called out to him. “I didn’t expect to see you so soon. Come and have dinner with us.”

“Sorry, I can’t. I must be off now,” Jason said and kept walking.

“Nonsense,” Milo said and grabbed his arm. He steered Jason in the opposite direction of where he planned to go, and he was surprised by Milo’s strength. Despite his large stomach, Milo was more fit than he had ever been before. But it didn’t seem like Milo was aware of how strong he was.

“No, I don’t want to,” Jason objected and tried to pull his arm away from Milo. “I want to get out of here right now.”

Milo sighed. “Look. Your mates said we should let you sleep, but you need sustenance to build your strength. Changing into a wolf takes a strong toll on the human body. I know exactly how exhausting it is.”

“What the hell are you talking about? Mates? Those guys are certainly not my mates, nor will they ever be. I’ve had it with this place.”

Milo placed his right hand on Jason’s shoulder. It felt more comforting than Jason could have expected, and he calmed down.

“Let’s eat first, Jason. I’ll explain everything to you afterwards.” Milo said calmly.

Jason felt confused. He wanted to leave, but the comforting touch and Milo’s kind eyes persuaded him even if he wanted to object. Before Jason could do anything else, Milo handed him a plate stacked with food. Jason stared at it while he took in the scent of a well-prepared meal. He couldn’t take his eyes off it. He was too hungry to resist.

“Eat. You can thank me later,” Milo said with a wide grin.

Jason felt more hungry than he had done in weeks. True enough, he had reduced his portions to save money when his paychecks arrived. Did Milo know he hadn’t had a decent meal in a long time?
