I absolutely adored this book for so many reasons. First off the 10th Doctor is alone but we get to hear his inner dialogue which is fascinating! Secondly, he has FOUR obstacles blocking his retrieval of a world destroying weapon locked inside a huge black fortress. There is 1 very vicious teenager who hates him & takes sides with obstacle #2 namely the Eyeless, an alien race made of glass that wants the weapon too & will kill the Doctor as well. There are ghosts haunting the fortress who are beings that were killed by the weapon & don't understand that whoever they touch becomes a ghost too. Finally there are the traps & weapons positioned everywhere inside, setup to protect the deadly weapon at its center. SPOILER: At one point he's so tired & feels so alone that when one of the aliens catches him & begins to throttle him he falls to his knees & doesn't fight back. It is a page turner on a grand scale, only 2nd to the flawless "Prisoner of the Daleks," another 10th Doctor book.
