Within the framework of a four-volume, handbook-like presentation of Church Contemporary History, this first volume in ten chapters (including politics, theology, education, culture, diaconia, Judaism etc.) provides an overview of the diverse and exciting relationship of Protestantism with the first German democracy and its social perception in the Weimar State. The book, written by experts in the field, offers a profound historical basis and opens up perspectives for the understanding of the church history of the entire 20th century.
