About this ebook

Yasmine Dennis was doing her best to make it on her own. She’d been blind since she was seven and had done rather well for herself despite her disability. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time resulted in a hospital stay, and a childhood friend, Caleb Anderson, came to her rescue.

Joey Phillips was just trying to help the beautiful woman avoid a fall when he met her. Despite her surly disposition, he was intrigued. She might think she was handicapped, but all Joey saw was a beautiful woman that he desperately needed to get to know.

'Joey Phillips' is Kathi S. Barton's second book in her "Berkley's Bastards" series and I have to say, this is an intriguing premise and storyline. This time we get to meet Joey Phillips, one of Caleb Anderson's half-brothers. He was in the military at one time but now is homeless, living under a bridge, and about to take his own life. That's how Tabby found him. So not only do we get to walk with him as he adjusts to his own new reality of family but as he meets Yazzy. Yazzy is blind and wakes to find herself in the hospital but for the life of her can't remember why she's there. She has a twin sister, Jazzy, who continually harps and nags at her. Jazzy wants Yazzy to come live with her since she considers her sister to be a cripple and doesn't miss an opportunity to remind her and anyone within her hearing distance. Yep, you guessed it, she's the crazy relative in this story. This is an instant attraction story that snowballs quickly but still has all the relatability with the characters and the emotional feels of their chemistry, the love of family, the loyalty, and of course, good overpowering evil. I enjoyed these two tremendously and they've just located another brother. I can hardly wait to read Martin Hamilton's story.
