This book investigates the roles of industrial clustering and of tertiary educational institutions in the development of industrial clusters and competitiveness. It examines the concept of regional development through industrial clustering to understand the relationships and factors influencing coopetition (cooperation and competition) between government, companies and tertiary educational institutions. In addition, the book proposes applicable models and methods for improving the dynamics of government, tertiary education, national research institutes and firms in order to improve the skills, knowledge, innovation and competitiveness of industrial clusters, using Thailand’s automotive cluster as a central case study.

About the author

Jomphong Mongkhonvanit is Trustee and Associate Professor of Siam University. He is the President of Siam Institute of Technology and the President of the Federation of Private Technological and Vocational Colleges of Thailand. Dr. Mongkhonvanit was Advisor to Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister in Economic Affairs and served in parliamentary committees on education policy. With international publications and books, Dr. Mongkhonvanit currently leads international and national research and development projects regarding human development, education policy, and competitiveness. Dr. Mongkhonvanit holds academic degrees from Harvard University, Columbia University, University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Bath.
