About this ebook

'A masterfully crafted, brutally compelling Norse-inspired epic' Anthony Ryan

THE GREATEST SAGAS ARE WRITTEN IN BLOOD.

A century has passed since the gods fought and drove themselves to extinction. Now only their bones remain, promising great power to those brave enough to seek them out.

As whispers of war echo across the land of Vigrið, fate follows in the footsteps of three warriors: a huntress on a dangerous quest, a noblewoman pursuing battle fame, and a thrall seeking vengeance among the mercenaries known as the Bloodsworn.

All three will shape the fate of the world as it once more falls under the shadow of the gods.

Set in a brand-new, Norse-inspired world, and packed with myth, magic and bloody vengeance, The Shadow of the Gods begins an epic new fantasy saga from bestselling author John Gwynne.

Had to stop half way. Well written, but I just couldn't figure out why I was reading it. There were too many characters thrown at you in the first 100 pages to remember who was doing what and the whole thing just felt like there was good potential, but it was lost in itself.

Surprised people complain of the switching of stories/characters through chapters. It doesn't get confusing or lost within itself, it remains a draw to each story and keeps you reading for more. Awesome lore and use of imagination mixed in. Cannot wait to read the next two. If you like Eragon, LOTR etc then you'll love this.

I really enjoyed this book. John Gwynne has created an amazing world and compelling characters. At the start I found the pacing to be jolty with the switching of the characters but the deeper I got into the story the more it pays off.

About the author

John Gwynne studied and lectured at Brighton University. He's played double bass in a rock 'n' roll band, packed soap in a soap factory and dug ditches for a landscaping crew. He is married with four children, eight goats, five sheep, three dogs, two horses and three ducks and lives in East Sussex, where he is part of a Viking re-enactment group. When not writing or running around after his wife and her crazy animals he can be found standing in a shield wall with his three sons about him.
