Too Dark to Be “Sweet” I'm not quite sure what is going on with romances lately, but this one—like several others I've read this week, unfortunately—has some very dark elements that aren't warned about in the book's description. (I wonder if this has something to do with the pandemic and the stress we all feel. Let me state I strongly dislike this trend!) When I see a romance labeled “clean and sweet,” I know that refers to the sex (though I don't see $ex as being dirty), but I also have an expectation that a “sweet” book won't be dark, and this one certainly was in places. Not only did it have a theme about human trafficking, but it also has sadistic, cruel torture of female captives as well. Ick… big time. Not what I was expecting at all, and I felt myself quite disturbed by the book, which is *not* why I read romance. I want to escape from harsh realities, not be exposed to the worst of them. And I don't think that has a place at all in a book labeled “sweet.” This didn't really feel like a true romance either, as the couple is already together with hearts engaged. A lot happens, but not really around the romance. I have read this author off and on for a while, and the quality of her books varies widely. The more I read of her, the more I think she is just one of those authors who likes to pump out a book every couple weeks, not caring too much about the ultimate quality of them. Too bad, because I enjoyed some of her books last year. I wish she cared more about giving the readers a good experience consistently than just putting out book after book. And be warned, while this book may be “sweet” in terms of the sex, it definitely is not otherwise.

This is the "clean" version of Her Pirate Prince and contains no sex scenes. The previous book (which really provides a lot of backstory--you'll want to go back and read it) sets the scene for Anteros and Olivia. The seer has a vision where Anteros is destroyed with Olivia being used as bait. She encounters a spirit friend who confirms the vision. Anteros is the only force strong enough to defeat the Dey of Algiers but his weak spot is Olivia. Only with the Seer's help can he rescue his wife and defeat the Dey without dying himself. Fast paced, novella length. I think the previous story should be recommended as a prequel to this but the action is fast and furious and the characters are truly good fighting against terrible evil

If you want a story with action, adventure, intrigue, a handsome pirate prince and his beautiful wife, this is the story that will fill all of those desires! When his wife is stolen Anteros will stop at nothing to get her back and destroy everything in his way. Wonderful characters and vivid descriptions entertain until the very end!!
