About this ebook

The award-winning New York Times bestseller that inspired BTS's K-pop song 'Magic Shop'.

The day that 12-year-old James Doty walked in to his local magic shop is the day that changed his life.

Once the neglected son of an alcoholic father and a mother with chronic depression, he has gone on to become a leading neurosurgeon, based at Stanford University. He credits Ruth for this incredible turnaround: the remarkable woman he met at the Cactus Rabbit Magic Shop, who devoted the summer to transforming his mind and opening his heart.

In this uplifting memoir, Jim explains the visualisation techniques Ruth taught him that gave him the self-esteem to imagine a new future for himself. He examines the science behind mindfulness and why the skills he learned - of focus and attention - now help him to think fast and keep calm in the operating theatre. And he shows us what is possible when you start to change your brain and your heart. Into the Magic Shopimparts some powerful life lessons about how to live better, and inspires us to believe that we all have inside us the capacity to change our own destiny.

'I'm sure many readers will be moved by this inspiring story to open their hearts and see what they too can do for others' - His Holiness the Dalai Lama

I'm an introvert, I don't know... but people usually think of me like that. I would also like to mention that this is my first book review. I don't exactly have any idea how to write this...but I can tell that I'm really happy to share my experience while reading this book out here. This the most beautiful book I have ever read. Really influences from deep down of your heart...I guess this book truly shows a great impact on your life if you read it whole heartedly. My inspiration to read this book is the BTS song- magic shop and I'm really grateful for discovering this wonderful book. As I was approaching to the end of this book...I felt sad cause the extraordinary journey I had with this book was coming to an end. A must recommendation to anyone.

into the magic shop: The book which helped me view deep inside my brain and heart. The author with his medical knowledge has explained everything so clearly that their are still areas where the bestest of best neurosurgeon can't explain for example Love of the mother on her child. Till now I've thought money can get me everything in this world. but author has clearly contradicted it and made me realize that compassion is important and that gives the real joy and happiness. This book helped me to start practising meditation and to make selftime out of the busy schedule to make intent right. This reality helped me out to concentrate well on the tasks. This book is really a magic. loved it so much!!
