While Susan struggles with her surprising new desires, college professor Rona is devastated by the renewal of her secret love affair years after the adulterous liaison ended in heartbreak. Once Bev shows up unexpectedly from Boca, surprises, secrets new and old, and tangled relationships among old friends play out against the background of second chances one summer in the city.

Every major city around the world has its own character and flavor and nowhere is this more true than for New York City. Living as I do in the Southern Hemisphere, I found this book difficult to relate to as New Yorkers and their lifestyle are so very different from what I know. As I came to the close of this novel I felt hope for the future but also some sadness as the book closed on an inclusive note. The novel is well written and the descriptive narrative stirred my emotions, making me feel angry in parts, sad in others, and glad in some. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
