Guatemala, a country located in Central America, is known for its lush rainforests, stunning beaches, and breathtaking Mayan ruins. The country’s capital is Guatemala City, which is also its largest city. With a population of over 18 million people, Guatemala is the most populous country in Central America. Guatemala’s history is filled with a mix of Spanish colonialism, Mayan culture, and political unrest. It gained independence from Spain in 1821 and has gone through several periods of political upheaval, including a 36-year civil war that ended in 1996. Despite its struggles, Guatemala has a rich cultural heritage, which includes the ruins of ancient Mayan cities such as Tikal and Copán. It also has a vibrant indigenous culture, with over 20 languages spoken by various indigenous groups throughout the country.
