Belarus is a landlocked country located in Eastern Europe. It borders Russia to the east and northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. Belarus has a rich history and culture, with evidence of human settlements dating back to the Stone Age. The country was also a center of cultural and intellectual activity in the medieval period, with the development of the Belarusian language and the establishment of a thriving literary and artistic tradition. In the modern era, Belarus was part of the Soviet Union for much of the 20th century, and only gained independence in 1991. Since then, the country has undergone significant changes, including the transition from a command economy to a market economy, and the development of a democratic political system. Despite its small size and relative obscurity, Belarus is a fascinating and culturally rich country with a unique history and identity.
