I read this after reading Hugh Howey's Wool, which is excellent, so perhaps I was setting myself up to find fault with Insurgent. It's written for a younger audience, which I found I kept reminding myself, but there were a number of times when irritating plot holes emerged, or characters suddenly became inconsistent for the benefit of moving the story along. I found the inconsistencies with the many characters a distraction from what is actually a really interesting idea. Overall, an okay read.

I have read the first and second book in the divergent trilogy and let me tell you... Tris is a whiny annoying little girl! Tobias cares about her safety, what does Tris do? She goes and has a massive argument with him! All Tris says is "I have it so hard! Oh my days, Tobias is standing 1.34582955 cm away from me; what did I do wrong? Tris let's Tobias get in the way of everything. The story is fine, but the main character.... I just want to shake her and tell her to stop it!!

...to lose yourself in. A great sequel to a compelling first novel. Despite guessing early on the ending of this book, it became more of a an eagerness to read the fallout of the next book rather than annoyance at its predictability. Original and simply written, Roth manages to create a reality that is extremely believable.
