This is the first, and least authentic, English translation of Dostoyevsky's novel. Heavily influenced by Victor Hugo and Charles Dickens, this novel feels a bit like David Copperfield and several other Dickens novels, combined with the social commentary of Les Miserables. Unfortunately, this version is missing pages 32 and 33 and mixes up several other pages between 31 and 39. I recommend the Constance Garnett translation (The Insulted and Injured) over this one or, if you don't mind paying for it, the 2008 translation (Humilated and Insulted) by Ignat Avsey.
