Die Auseinandersetzung um den "Tod des Autors", seine Umwertung oder Rückkehr ist in den vergangenen Jahren zunehmend lebhaft geführt worden. Mittlerweile ist der theoretische Prozess von Nietzsches "Ich als Wortspiel" zu Barthes' "mort de l'auteur" seinerseits zum Gegenstand theoretischer Reflexionen geworden, die nicht nur einen vertrauten Terminus betreffen, sondern eine grundlegende Kategorie hermeneutischen Textverstehens. Das in diesem Band dokumentierte Symposion hat, eine Generation nach Barthes' Proklamation, theoretische Prämissen, literarische Inszenierungen und Formen des literaturwissenschaftlichen und öffentlichen Umgangs mit "Autorschaft" interdisziplinär erörtert. Dabei reichen die Fallbeispiele von der Epoche der Empfindsamkeit bis zur Autorschaft im Internet.
