Bei den Vorbereitungen auf das Reformationsjubiläum 2017 wurde deutlich: Die evangelischen Freikirchen verstehen sich als Kirchen, deren Wurzeln und theologische Prägungen in der Reformation des 16. Jahrhunderts liegen, auch wenn sie sich in der Regel nicht direkt auf die Reformationszeit zurückführen lassen. Daher wurde auf Initiative des Forums zwischen Landes- und Freikirchen in Nordrhein-Westfalen im Herbst 2013 ein Forschungsprojekt gestartet, das sich mit dem speziellen Verhältnis der evangelischen Frei- und Landeskirchen auseinandersetzt, insbesondere mit der spannungsreichen und konfliktbeladenen Phase des 19. Jahrhunderts. Fachleute aus Landes- und Freikirchen bemühen sich in den vorliegenden Forschungsergebnissen um die Aufklärung von Ursachen und Verlauf dieser wenig bekannten Konfliktgeschichte und somit um ein neues Verständnis für eine innerevangelische Ökumene. [Healing of Memories. Free Churches and Regional Churches in the 19th Century. Contributions of a Research Project Regarding the Reformation Jubilee 2017] Preparing the anniversary of the Reformation in 2017 it became clear: Even if the origin of the Protestant Free Churches cannot be traced back to the Reformation period, they see themselves as churches rooted and theologically marked by the Reformation of the 16th century. Initiated by the panel "Regional and Free Churches in North Rhine-Westphalia" therefore, a research project was launched in autumn 2013. Main task is the analysis of the special relationship between Regional and Free Churches, especially the tense and conflict-burdened time of the 19th century. With these currently available data, experts from Regional and Free Churches try to discover causes and course of this little known story of conflicts and consequently a new understanding for the inner-Protestant Ecumenism.
