A great manga but I do think there are a few things still lost in translation. For example , the use of an "affectionate female nickname" vs. using "nii-chan." The catch here, is that the gems are genderless. So, they switch from : hey bro! to hey sis! Interchangeably... The anime does a better job at filling in the blanks as compared to the manga somewhat cryptic 1 panel action shots...
