About this ebook

One of the definitive novels of the twentieth century, and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. This enhanced edition includes an excerpt from the audio read by Sissy Spacek as well as footage from the documentary, Hey Boo, including contributions from Oprah Winfrey, Wally Lamb and Richard Russo among others.

'Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.'

A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the thirties. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much.

To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story, an anti-racist novel, a historical drama of the Great Depression and a sublime example of the Southern writing tradition.

Maybe im too stupid or whatever you want to call me but Its really not engaging or too empowering. It seems to have aged brilliantly and is portrayed as outstanding, but it is really nothing worth its recognition. People write books like these all the time, past or present and this is nothing more than an overhyped work of literature with an author who lucked out

A work of art. The layers that this book has is astounding. It is brilliantly written and uniquely configured to portray so many different points of view in one short novel. Definitely worth the decades of praise. If you have not read this book, I envy you, you get to enjoy that first read experience. I have read it several times now and will continue to read it for the rest of my life.
