Amongst the graves lay a caretaker named Elias, a solitary figure tasked with the daunting duty of tending to this necropolis. He was a man of few words, haunted by the memories of his past. Every night, he walked through the maze of headstones, carrying a lantern that flickered like a fragile beacon in the darkness.
Tonight, however, was different. The air crackled with an otherworldly energy that sent shivers down Elias’s spine. Unseen eyes seemed to follow his every step, and a sense of unease settled heavily upon his shoulders.
As Elias reached the oldest part of the cemetery, he heard a distant, mournful wail carried by the wind. It echoed through the trees and seemed to emanate from the depths of the earth itself. His heart raced as he quickened his pace, sensing an impending dread that he couldn’t quite comprehend.
A sudden gust extinguished his lantern, plunging him into absolute darkness. Panic clawed at Elias’s chest as he fumbled for a match to relight the flame. But before he could, a pale hand emerged from the earth, grasping at his ankle with an icy grip. The ground trembled as figures clad in tattered burial shrouds emerged from their graves, their hollow eyes fixed upon Elias.
These were not the peaceful slumberers he had tended to for years; these were the restless dead, craving something beyond the grave.
With a surge of adrenaline, Elias tore himself free from the ghastly grip and stumbled backward, his heart pounding in terror. The undead moved with an unnatural grace, their movements jerky and disjointed as they closed in on him. Their moans filled the air, a symphony of anguish that sent chills down his spine.
