It is the day before Christmas Eve and there is lots to do, but disaster strikes when Pettson sprains his ankle. How can they celebrate Christmas now, with no tree, ham, meatballs or gingerbread? Sven Nordqvist (b, 1946) is a well-loved Swedish children's author and illustrator. The Findus and Pettson stories draw on his playful adventures with his two young sons, and his unique illustrations are inspired by a delight in everyday life. Sven Nordqvist sets out intentionally to create a safe world in his Pettson and Findus series; a world in which problems can find resolution. Such a world, he believes, provides the security that children need in today's world: "The world should be comprehensible. Essentially that's how I myself would like it to be."
