Die Autorin wurde 1839 in Magdeburg geboren. Sie lebte mit ihrer Familie in Berlin, Eisenach, Leipzig, Dresden. 1854 veröffentlichte sie erste Erzählungen unter dem Pseudonym Emmy von Rhoden.
