Lydia's talents bring her to the attention of Alexander Banebridge, a mysterious man in need of a translator. Driven by a campaign to end the opium trade, Bane is coolly analytical and relentless in his quest. He cannot afford to fall for Lydia and must fight the bittersweet love growing between them.

Another great story by this amazing author.Lydia, a girl that grows up in an orphanage with the loss of her parents, trying to make her way. She only wants order and is very meticulous in her manner. Working in the naval office as an interpreter brings her in contact with Alex, who asks her to translate some documents. Full of a mystery. suspense, villains and a journey to finding love, while dealing with outside forces and internal addictions, Lydia finds she is stronger than she ever thought and Alex brings out the best in her. Loved it.

It's been awhile since I've read a well written book and Camden is one great writer. I was spellbound. She knows how to build a story, i was holding my breath. This is a love story and a thriller. It's also historical with info i was not aware of, opium in children's OTC medicine in the mid 1800s. Fascinating read.

Started reading it thinking it would be a 'run of the mill' love story but found it certainly kept me interested right to the end.
