If it weren't for the last third of the book, I would have only given it only four stars out of respect for E. Elliot's beautiful legacy of faith. The "setup" read pretty slow to me, but was totally saved by the last third and epilogues. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised by this as she mentions it was her first book. The second epilogue was pure instructional gold, and I was really captivated and challenged by her sobering words about God's right to have Providence and our need to be humble in the midst of it. Thank God for this story and the countless it has touched, even 60 years later!
