About the author
Joseph von Eichendorff (1788-1857) war ein aus Oberschlesien stammender Lyriker und Schriftsteller und einer der bekanntesten Vertreter der deutschen Romantik. Zusammen mit seinem Bruder Wilhelm studiert er Jura zunächst in Halle, dann in Heidelberg, wo er 1807 die wichtigsten Figuren der Heidelberger Romantik kennenlernte. Als Beamter des preußischen Staates verdiente er seinen Lebensunterhalt aber veröffentlichte nebenbei seine Lyrik und Prosa.
