He is the author of seven books, over 300 articles, and award-winning documentary films and television productions in those fields. Although his path never crossed that of William Darrell Lindsey, Dr. Vernon attended the same high school, delivered the local paper to Lindsey's family, and shared many acquaintances with the killer.

In 1993 she married the prominent forensic psychologist McCay Vernon, a relationship that led her to coauthor with him two works of true crime, Deadly Lust and Deadly Charm. Currently she is writing a series of mystery books with Judy Weber under the pseudonym Amber Adams, set in the town of St. Augustine, where she lives.
