It’s where horrors come to be themselves, and the dead pause to rest between worlds. Recently widowed and unemployed, Richard Carter finds a new job, and a new life for him and his daughter Serena, as manager of the mysterious Deadfall Hotel. Jacob Ascher, the caretaker, is there to show Richard the ropes, and to tell him the many rules and traditions, but from the beginning, their new world haunts and transforms them.

A very interesting psychological study of the "haunted house" story. On the theme of madness and deep isolation I would put this near "Hotellet" by Jonas Wilmann and Gerald Durrels short story "The Mountain Lodge". The entity of Tim Lebbons "White" could also be an influence to some of the goings on of the Deadfall Hotel.

Steve Rasnic Tem is an author, artist, and poet. His works have earned him numerous international literary awards, including the World Fantasy award. He is frequently compared to Ray Bradbury, Raymond Carver, and Franz Kafka.
