About this ebook

Veenie Goens and Ruby Jane Waskom would like to retire, but they lack a nest egg. In fact, they barely have a nest. They co-own a ramshackle, but cozy home, that’s overrun with quirky characters. Determined to supplement their social security, the amateur aging women sleuths, who live in the small town of Knobby Waters, Indiana, decide to go pro with their one natural talent: nosiness. They sign on as detectives with the Shady Hoosier Detective Agency, run by Harry Shades, an incompetent womanizer. Their knees aching, but their spirits high, the senior sleuths’ first crime case, the Ghost Busting Mystery, finds the lifelong friends chasing ghosts, bank robbers and hillbilly hoodlums through the barnyards of rural Indiana. Follow Ruby Jane and Veenie’s antics in the Ghost Busting Mystery, an award-winning feel-good, funny mystery voted the Best Humor Book 2019 by the Indie Reader. This is Book 1 in the humorous Shady Hoosier Detective Agency Cozy Mystery Series.

Book Review You know that you are reading a fantastic book when you carry it with you everywhere you go and whip it out when you have any time at all to read, Ghost Busting Mystery is one of those books. I read it during my lunch break, I read it in the grocery store line, I read it while waiting for a food order- I look for any opportunity to pick it up. The characters are funny, lively and relatable (and I never lived I Indiana). The story line brings you in, I want to know who these ghosts are! Daisy Pettles is a smart writer with a sense of humor. I’m so glad this is the first in a series because I am sorry that this one is over. I want to read number two! You will not regret reading this book, I promise!

law-enforcement, laugh-out-loud, cozy-mystery, crooks, verbal-humor, situational-humor, seniors There's a perfectly good plot here, but the best thing is the absolutely hilarious humor! And the characters, of course. The two seniors have perfectly fine minds, but one is pretty much blind as a bat and the other is more stubborn than a mule. Together they investigate some mighty odd goings on in their small township, keep running afoul of their friend who is the local law, and even get mixed up with a Fed who used to live there. Stay away from beverages while reading this great book! It's just what I needed when I would come home from working second shift in the ER! I requested and received a free ebook copy from Hot Pants Press, LLC via NetGalley.

This first Shady Hoosier Detective Agency book had me laughing out loud and waiting for more. If this is book 1, I know there must be at least one more coming... right? How nice to find MATURE women with wit and smarts! Since I am one, I know that RJ and Veenie are, too! I enjoyed these two and their antics. Wherever they're going in that old Chevy, I want to ride along. When this case comes in to the local police, they don't want to touch it, so they slide it over to the Shady Hoosier Detective Agency, where Veenie & RJ are working to try to make ends meet. That's when things get rolling. The author, Daisy Pettles, has an original style that is quirky and engaging. All of the characters are full of life. Ghost Busting Mystery is small town mystery with the heart of Garrison Keillor and the crime cracking wit of Janet Evanovich. Almost makes me want a mystery meat sandwich! (I said almost....)
