The main purpose of writing this e-book is to meet requirements of the botany students of degree classes. The Book of Botany – “Diversity of Microbes and Cryptogams” is based on UGC model curriculum and as per the B. Sc. First Year Botany syllabus of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.


Subject matter has been divided into 5 chapters. The first chapter includes diversity of microbes with a general account of Virus, Mycoplasma and Bacteria. The succeeding chapters are concerned with Algae, Fungi, Lichen, Bryophyta and Pteridophyta. General characters, detailed descriptions, reproduction and life cycles of important representatives of each group have been provided in simple language which can easily be grasped by students. To make subject easy and understandable, profusely illustrated and self-explanatory diagrams have been added, which are drawn by Miss. Sakshi Sharma.


Question Bank has been provided at the end with long questions and short questions, which are frequently asked in examinations.

Dr. Pramod Parasharam Sharma has awarded Ph. D. in the subject of Botany from Pune University, Pune, India in 1998. For this research work he has worked in Botanical Survey of India, Western Circle, Pune from 1994 to 1998. In further academic endeavours, for Postdoctoral Fellowship he worked in National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, UP, India from 1999 to 2002. For second postdoctoral fellowship he worked in Agarkar Research Institute, Pune, India. Afterwards, he joined Higher Education services as an Assistant Professor in 2004 onwards. At present he is serving as Principal of Indraraj Arts, commerce and Science College, located at Sillod, Aurangabad, India. He is also nominated as BOS member in the subject Botany and member of IPR Cell of Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad.


He has published over 100 research papers in various reputed journals. He is having 5 books to his credit. Out of these, one book entitled "Ethnobotany of Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman (UT)" is published by Botanical Survey of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India in 2001. He has been awarded as FES (Fellow) by Ethnobotanical Society, Lucknow and FAPT by Association for Plant Taxonomists, Dehradun.


 8 Research Students have been awarded Ph.D. degree in Botany under his able guidance. He has delivered many lectures as a resource person in several National and International Seminars in India as well as abroad.


Dr. B. T. Pawar is in teaching profession since over 20 years and presently shouldering responsibility as aVice-Principal at Shri Muktanand College, Gangapur, Dist. Aurangabad(MS). He has completed his Ph.D. in Phyto-Bacteriology and also has Post-doctoral researchexperience in the field of Virology, Bacteriology, Mycology and Plant Pathology. Dr. Pawar is recognized research guide in Botany of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. He is Fellow of Various National & International Societies like Society of Education, InternationalScience Congress Association, Indian Science Congress Association etc. He has completedMajor Research Projects funded by UGC, New Delhi and other Minor Research Projects byvarious funding agencies. He received various National &International Best OralPresentation Awards. He has published more than 50 Research Papers in reputedInternational Journals with high impact factor as well as excellent Google Scholar CitationIndex and also have 05 Reference Books to his credit. He is presently working as Executive EditorialBoard Member of 12 International Research Journals with High Impact Factor. He isExcellent Administrator, Renown Research Scientist and Favorite Teacher of the students.
