I’m Meimi Archer, your regular high school science geek for hire. Sure, it’s dangerous to create high-tech gizmos for a criminal overlord called the Scythe, but it keeps Mom and me safely off-grid. Ever since the Authority took over the United Americas, you either live inside a domed city (where you’re watched 24-7) or you scrape by on illegal money while hiding out in the sticks. Guess what category I fall into?

Long story short, everything's fine until I screw up a job. Badly. My home slips into two-dimensional space-time. It only lasts for a few seconds, but the move still sets off about a dozen government alarms. If they track me down, Mom and I are good as dead. Now I need to pay someone off, hide the evidence, and keep us safe. Fast.

That’s when a hottie named Thorne materializes in my kitchen. He’s about my age, wears black body armor, and says he came to “this version of Earth” from another planet. We share a bizarre mind-meld moment before he vows to do anything that ensures I survive.

The Book Junkie Reads

Exciting. Entertaining. Leading. Compelling. The excitement of being able to take of your family at such a young as with the skills of years of experience. The entertaining activities that take place in more than one dimension. The escape of the government. The prospect of doing something dangerous. This was a short read that was leading up to more in the next installment of this series. An introduction in to the world of a kick-ass, play the game, do the job, make it happen, girl in high school. Christina Bauer gives great visual cue, awesome world building, well developed characters, strong/supported/determine female lead. A fantasy world that I am very excited to sink right in to.

Loved this story & characters. The only things preventing perfect satisfaction were some spelling errors, grammar errors, and a complete tense change in the last chapter. Planning to read the next book in the series.

Another brilliant book by Christina Bauer! Meimi is the spirited female lead who's post-apocalyptic life goes up in flames when those she's looked up to or trusted in do what they feel is in her best interest. Just before this, the guy she's literally been dreaming about shows up to help her mom out and realizes she's his special someone. Everything should be pretty straightforward, right? Nope, Christina Bauer introduces twists and turns to keep the reader engrossed until the very last page. Overall, I found it to be a solid introduction to a series and I can't wait to read more. Thank you to Christina Bauer, NetGalley, and Monster House Books for the chance to read this story and give others my honest thoughts and opinions.

Christina Bauer believes that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T.
