Since its inception in 1966, the series of numbered volumes known as Semiconductors and Semimetals has distinguished itself through the careful selection of well-known authors, editors, and contributors. The Willardson and Beer series, as it is widely known, has succeeded in producing numerous landmark volumes and chapters. Not only did many of these volumes make an impact at the time of their publication, but they continue to be well-cited years after their original release. Recently, Professor Eicke R. Weber of the University of California at Berkeley joined as a co-editor of the series. Robert M. Miller, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, BC-NCD, is chief of Audiology and Speech Pathology at the Veterans' Administration Medical Center, Seattle, Washington. He holds the position of clinical associate professor in the departments of Rehabilitation Medicine; Speech and Hearing Sciences; and Otolaryngology, Head, and Neck Surgery at the University of Washington, Seattle. A nationally recognized expert on management of swallowing disorders, Dr. Miller has authored numerous chapters and articles on the topic. He is co-author of the book Medical Speech Pathology. He is Board Certified by the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences.
