Penelitian dan pencatatan ini meliputi beberapa aspek termasuk di dalamnya aspek ceritera rakyat yang dapat dikualifikasikan ke dalam bentuk-bentuk sastra lisan serta diturunkan dari mulut ke mulut oleh satu generasi kepada generasi berikutnya. Cara demikian ini akan mengakibatkan unsur keaslian daripada cerita-cerita ini akan hilang, bahkan kemungkinan besar cerita ini akan punah sama sekali. Itulah sebabnya maka cerita rakyat dimasukkan sebagai salah satu aspek dalam penelitian dan pencatatan tersebut.
