Oof! Asher broke my heart in this book. He just wants to be loved and valued for himself but everyone who should be doing that have turned their backs on him. It’s no wonder he hides who he really is behind layers of masks and social niceties. Lani drove me a little batty. I completely understand what she feared, but I thought it was cruel that she kept taking those fears out on Asher who just so desperately needed somebody to believe in him for a change. I loved that these two got a second chance, since it sounds like they both botched it pretty bad the first time. I can’t say I was surprised at who turned out to be the ultimate mastermind behind the embezzling, but I was caught off guard by the reasons why. I’m looking forward to seeing what ultimately comes from it all in the final book. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
