Der erste Hauptteil ist der Recensio der handschriftlichen Überlieferung gewidmet und bietet eine Geschichte des Texts in Mittelalter und Renaissance bis zu den ersten Drucken.
Der zweite Teil umfasst einen kritischen Kommentar, in dem auf Basis der neuen Recensio eine Vielzahl schwieriger und umstrittener Partien erörtert werden.
