Lillian Holmes is in the Romanian countryside to avenge her father’s murder. It soon becomes apparent to Lillian that the AIU want her dead as well, and since she can help Radu find his long–lost brother, Radu and Lillian agree that they must work together, which is easier said than done! Although UNLEASHING DESIRE is book 4 in the Brides of Prophecy series, it can easily be read as a standalone. While it is obvious the book ties in with the previous three, a newcomer to the series will have no problem following the story, which is rather surprising given that the worldbuilding is very elaborate. Ms. Ann’s fluid and eloquent writing brings Romania as well as Idaho to life with vibrant descriptions. Radu has been a recluse for hundreds of years, eaten by guilt, literally cut off from the world, and the author does a great job at describing his bafflement at modern technology, and this much better than what we usually read in this sort of situation, especially since he has not lived amongst people in centuries. The romance between Radu and Lillian evolved naturally, it never felt forced or rushed. One of the great things about UNLEASHING DESIRE is the impeccable pacing: it is never sluggish or frantic, even when the action seriously picks up towards the end. I loved every single character; they are all so very alike, never stereotypical, and even very minor characters are well drawn-out; Akasha and Silas nearly stole the show, she is one tough cookie! The story is very solid with many twists and turns. I loved the appearance of a mythical personage who, I am certain, will feature prominently in future instalments, which I’m looking forward to. I really enjoyed the innovative perspective on vampires and preternaturals, and it’s evident there are may more surprises to expect from Brooklyn Ann in this very entertaining series!
