Mussolini was born on July 29, 1883, in Predappio, Italy. He was the son of a blacksmith and a schoolteacher, growing up in a working-class family with strong socialist influences. Mussolini himself was initially a socialist, but he broke away from the movement during World War I, advocating for Italy's participation in the war and ultimately embracing nationalism and militarism.
In 1919, Mussolini founded the Fasci Italiani di Combattimento, which later evolved into the National Fascist Party.
