The pact had instead brought about a horrific fate for Henry's family. In a fit of madness, he'd murdered them, their lifeless bodies becoming macabre tenants beneath the floorboards of their own home. His quest for eternal life ended abruptly with a self-inflicted gunshot, his body added to the gruesome collection.
As John and his wife, Mary, unloaded the car, their children Emily and Karen explored the overgrown gardens. Emily, only seven, giggled as she chased a butterfly, oblivious to the malevolent presence that seemed to seep from the very walls of the house. Karen, at fifteen, tried to shake off her unease, attributing it to the stress of moving and starting a new school.
The Smith family's first night in the house was marked by an eerie silence, broken only by the creaking of the old house settling. But as John lay awake, staring at the ceiling, he could have sworn he heard the faint sound of children's laughter echoing through the walls. He dismissed it as a trick of the wind, unaware of the horrors that awaited them.
As days turned into weeks, an unsettling unease crept into their lives. Strange occurrences began to plague them. Doors would open and close by themselves, the heavy oak panels swinging on rusted hinges with an ominous groan.
