L’ouvrage débute par une définition précise des termes « anarchie » et « anarchisme » et de leur histoire, en même temps que par un tour d’horizon des enjeux politiques contemporains qui rendent nécessaire une nouvelle réflexion sur ces termes et leur potentiel émancipateur, trop vite enterré ou méprisé (les anarchistes sont des nihilistes, des terroristes, etc.). Catherine Malabou s’interroge sur la raison pour laquelle certains des philosophes les plus importants du XXe siècle ont élaboré des concepts d’anarchie décisifs pour comprendre la situation contemporaine de la pensée en matière d’éthique et de politique sans jamais toutefois se référer à l’anarchisme. Catherine Malabou (PhD, Philosophy, Ecole normale superieure de Fontenay-St. Cloud) is Professor of Comparative Literature at UC Irvine.
