This is a terribly written book! Every week I have to go to the internet to figure out what the authors are attempting to communicate. Did you know that "valency", as it relates to linguistics which one can find in NO OTHER PLACE THAN IN THIS TEXT is, "the number of arguments that a predicate requires in order to form a grammatical sentence" (p. 119). What does that mean in English or better yet ASL? "Predicate in signed languages differ in their valency: there are one-place, two-place, and three place predicates." Don't waste your time with this text...not helpful for 101 students!
