What is Travel Anyway?

We are born into this world to grow, to move, to change, to be whoever we want to be. We are a summation of everything we experience, all the things we see, and all the people we meet. Everything our bodies, our souls, our hearts touch, we are.

To limit myself inside a box created for me, or worse a box I created for myself, is my greatest fear. So I learned to travel despite the many excuses, reasons, and circumstances to not go.

I learned to leave. I learned to get lost. I learned to come home. Then did it over and over again.

Traveling is not a solution to anything, whether it’s heartbreak or a loss and it’s not always fun. That’s the beauty of it. It builds you, breaks you, and re-creates you, as does life.

So here we are. Here are some fleeting thoughts and a few of my memories about souls I met during my travels. I hope you get out there and make some for yourself. I hope that it triggers a thing or two in you.

Allenie has a gift with words that perfectly encapsulates the different faces of love. As vivid as the photos are the different feelings and emotions, including pain, courage, breakthroughs, highs and lows, that — just like the photos — are far from black and white. Travel Anyway doesn’t just take us to the places she’s been to, but to the amazing journey as well. A must have for anyone who’s brave enough to love and keep loving anyway.

Travel Anyway is a breath of fresh air! Many people are afraid to be emotionally vulnerable in their everyday lives and talk about the most important things in life. As you'll see when you read Travel Anyway, Allenie is not afraid to confront very emotional issues head on and her complete openness with the reader makes it a fantastic journey to follow. Perhaps my favorite part of the poems were the deep questions that were asked that prompted some deep self-reflection that I believe we all need from time to time. Would certainly recommend this book to everybody, particularly those who have felt challenged and changed by the joys of travel.

This book beautifully and artfully captures the all-too-human tensions and internal battles we all face. The pages and images are well-composed and a bit disarming, but the poems themselves are deceptively complex and brimming with sharp emotion. I felt the honest cut of some, and the stubborn, relentless passion of others. Told from the perspective of the ever-curious traveler, Travel Anyway got me to honestly ask myself some hard questions about happiness and purpose, questions that are usually so easy to avoid. But despite often confronting uncomfortable topics like death and heartbreak head on, there is an unquestionable thread of hope and strength throughout these poems that left me with renewed courage to never stop exploring. If you're willing to do a little bit of self-reflection and soul searching, I highly recommend Travel Anyway.
