When a chance online meeting reunites her with her college roommate's ex, she must confront feelings she had long ago forgotten, and kept hidden for years. Accepting Josh's invitation to a Valentine's Day gathering, she finds herself thrust into a situation she could have never imagined.

Torn between loyalty and loneliness, Anna embarks upon an adventure that will make this year's holiday one to remember...and for once, she just might find out what it's like to be the most popular girl at the party.

Excerpt:

She had almost finished with her exercise in self-assurance when she was startled by a strange sound from outside of the bedroom. It had seemed almost like someone yelling, and Anna was caught off-guard, instantly surprised and unsure what to do. She quickly crossed the bedroom once more, and as if in some bizarre parody of a spy movie, glanced around the doorframe, unsure of what she thought she'd see.

An open area that was centered above the staircase dominated the second floor. On either side of this void was a landing that led to a foyer at the far end, wide windows once again looking out upon the property in what was the central and elegant theme of the house. Equidistantly spaced along each landing was a series of doors that Anna assumed led to various guest rooms. Gingerly, she stepped out on the landing, making her way to the foyer at the far end, still unsure of herself.
She was just beginning to contemplate going back downstairs to rejoin Josh at the party, when she heard the sound once again. This time, it sounded more like a moan to her, not like someone crying out, and she was certain that it came from behind one of the rooms adjacent to the foyer. She walked slowly up to the door, listening, but the moaning sound did not come again.

Anna rolled over in her mind what course of action she should take. She could go down and alert Josh that she had a suspicion that one of his guest was sick, and hiding themselves away upstairs, but then she'd have to explain what she had been doing snooping around his second floor. If she was going to make such an admission, it was better to be sure, wasn't it? Still though, she wasn’t sure what else the sound could be. It was definitely a person, and they definitely sounded like they were in pain. Her curiosity aroused, she realized that once again, she didn't really have any choice; just like she wouldn't have forgiven herself for passing up the opportunity to reconnect with Josh, so she wouldn't be able to simply turn away from what she had heard in the room beyond. Placing her hand upon the knob, she quietly turned it, and opening the door just a crack, peered stealthily around the edge.

The room before her was a mirror image of the one she had just been in, although the windows faced out upon the front lawn of the house, instead of the backyard. A door on the far wall led to a bathroom, and a large, four-post bed of antiquarian manufacture took up the far wall. Expecting to see someone curled upon the bed, sickened and in pain, what she saw there instead made Anna sharply draw in a breath. She raised her free hand to her mouth in an unconscious gesture of surprise.
