It challenged notions of women's place in society and questioned every aspect of what constituted good conduct in domestic life. Ibsen's masterpiece was the first serious play to focus on ordinary people in everyday situations rather than on the lives of the upper classes.

Quelques mots sur l'auteur
Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) was a major Norwegian poet, iconoclast and as 'the father of modern drama' one of the most important playwrights of all time. His plays were deemed scandalous by many of his contemporaries during an era when Victorian values held sway and it was considered outrageous to challenge the status quo. Ibsen's other plays include Ghosts, The Wild Duck, Hedda Gabler and The Master Builder.
