40 Salat &salaam

A compilation of Salat &salaam obtained from authentic sources of Hadith

Our beloved Prophet Muhammed sallallahu alayhi wasallamis the most beloved to Allah and the most superior of all the Prophets. It is for this very reason that Allah has stated:

Surely, Allah and His angels send their Salât (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy) on the Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)  O you who believe! Send your Salât on (ask Allâh to bless) Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), and send salaam (salutation i.e. As Salâmu 'Alaikum) to him in abundance. (Surah Al-Ahzab 56)

What greater honour can there be for Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam than that the believers join with Allah and the angels in this blessed act of Salat and salaam.

The countless favours of Rasoolullah SAW upon his Ummah, his affection and love for them demand that they send Salat and salaam upon him abundantly asking Allah to honour His beloved Rasool sallallahu alayhi wasallam with His choicest mercies, blessings and greetings forever.

Ubay Ibn Ka'ab RA reports that “I asked,'O Rasoolullah, I would like to recite much Salat upon you, how much of the time that I have set aside for du'aa shall I use for it?' Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam replied' As much as you wish' I said, 'then I shall use one quarter thereof.' Rasoolullah SAW said, 'It is as you wish, and if you increase beyond that, it shall be even better for you, 'I said in that case I shall make it a half of the time.' Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallamsaid, 'It is as you wish, and if you increase beyond that then it shall be better for you.' I said, 'I shall make it two-thirds of my time.' Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam replied, 'It is as you wish, and if you increase beyond that then it shall be even better for you.' I said, 'O Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, I make the intention now that I shall set aside all the time of du'aa for Salat upon you.' Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam replied, 'In that case all your worries shall be removed and your sins shall be forgiven'.” (Tirmizi, Ahmad and Haakim)

Forty Ahaadeeth on Salat and Salaam

There are numerous compilations of Salat and Salaam which our respected elders, ulama and saints used to recite. This Forty Ahaadeeth on Salat and Salaam in this booklet are taken from authentic sources of Hadith, which were collected by Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi rahmatullahi alayh. Twenty five are Salat and fifteen are refer to salaam. Thus making it a collection of forty Ahadeeth.

In a HadithRasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam has said. “Whoever conveys forty Ahaadeeth regarding religious affairs to my ummah, Allah will raise him among the ranks of the ulamaa on the day of Qiyaamah and I shall be an intercessor on his behalf.”

The recitation of Salat and Salaam is a commanded act of Allah and Insha'Allah the reward will be doubled in this case i.e. for thatSalatitself and also for conwaying the forty Ahaadeeth.

Note: From out of twenty five Salat, most of them are Durood e Ibraheemi, which is the most virtuous form of Salatalan Nabee thought by Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam himself.

When to Recite

1. After the Adhan.

2. When entering and leaving the Masjid.

3. Daily Adhkar (remembrances) of the morning and evening.

4. When his name is mentioned in a gathering/written form etc.

5. Fridays.

May Allah enlighten our hearts with the love of His Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam and give us all the guidance to follow the Straight Path. Aameen.

Readers are humbly requested to remember all Marhumeen Muslims in their du`aa.
