this was my second reading of this book. I first read it as a teenage boy 60 years ago and it has lingered in my memory ever since. I fell in love with Hemingway stories and novels from the get-go and I've read them all, some more than once. in this last reading of the Nick Adams stories I was struck by how it portrays the thinking and attitudes of those times in which it was written. Nick Adams wasn't "woke". it seems Hemingway was experimenting with the cutting edge of acceptable literature of those days, presenting ideas and descriptions some might think as dangerous. I fell in love again with his descriptions of nature, of internal dialogue, and the way he could present violence and tenderness at the same time. I thought of recommending to my grandson that he read it because I was sure he would have many questions about the ideas presented therein. I don't think the Nick Adams stories could have been published today without drastic revisions.
