Civil servant Kendra has spent her whole life struggling against the Etonian powers-that-be. Jack Parlabane is a hack who will go to desperate lengths for a good story. Reduced to peddling PR puff pieces, he is delighted when Kendra's information threatens to blow up a national corruption case. But Parlabane soon realises this story might prove dangerous to both of them.

Christopher Brookmyre was born on September 6, 1968 in Glasgow. He attended the University of Glasgow and later became a Scottish novelist. His novels combine politics, comedy and social comment with a narrative. His first novel was Quite Ugly One Morning published in 1996. He followed that with One Fine Day in the Middle of the Night, All Fun and Games Until Somebody Loses an Eye, A Boy Did It and Ran Away, A Snowball in Hell and Want You Gone. His novel Black Widow won the 2017 Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award.
