Tara Westover and her family grew up preparing for the End of Days but, according to the government, she didn't exist. She hadn't been registered for a birth certificate. She had no school records because she'd never set foot in a classroom, and no medical records because her father didn't believe in hospitals.

As she grew older, her father became more radical and her brother more violent. At sixteen, Tara knew she had to leave home. In doing so she discovered both the transformative power of education, and the price she had to pay for it.

The story follows the highs and lows of the writer herself as her small-town mentality expands as a result of her education and learning. The Narrator does a fine job of really emphasising the flowery language without being droll or dull. Something I would re-read many times over and would recommend to everyone

Always interesting to hear about other people's lives, and this person's story is just incredible. A fascinating listen and I couldn't stop thinking about it when I wasn't listening and when I had finished. Inspiring too!

A book about liberty & education. A different perspective of the world to one most of us encounter in our own growth, but it's important that it's told. I am grateful to been able to read this book.
