Tough, triggering, poignant, but just what I needed… This was a difficult book for me to go through. It was a recommendation from my therapist, to whom I am very thankful. The book really hit home on so many points. I went through a lot of emotions and had to go through several chapters more than once. The book helped me reveal, acknowledge, and address some shockingly difficult memories that I had hidden from myself. The book helped me to allow myself to feel angry without feeling guilty. I really appreciate many of the self-healing techniques suggested and the toolkits provided which work to confront and silence the toxic inner critic. The fact that the author reveals his own traumatic experiences and discusses work dealing with his own CPTSD brings a sense of connection and relief as the reader progresses through the chapters. After completing this audiobook, I have decided I to also purchase the physical book because I want to go through it one more time to help myself stay on target with soothing my inner child and reinforcing the truth that I am a good enough person who is worth love and compassion.

Truly life-changing. Many times I was triggered listening to this book, but I now understand so much more of myself and my experience. I finally feel understood. I know I have a long recovery ahead, but this book has made me feel like that's truly possible. Listening to Pete's words has been a profound experience of re-parenting. Be prepared to sob at the end, which (for me at least) triggered an emotional flashback into the "abandonment mélange". Lean into it. We're not abandoning ourselves anymore ❤️

Worth a listen -- you don't even have to identify as someone who went through childhood trauma for it to be worth your time! Genuinely, it's well written, refreshing, thought-provoking and amusing :) Pick a place and read -- you won't find a page (or audio equivalent) where some comment doesn't pique your interest
