THE INSPIRATION FOR JUSTIFIED: CITY PRIMEVALÂ ON FX
âAs gritty and hard-driving a thriller as youâll find....The action never stops, the language sings and stings.â âWashington Post
The City Primeval in Elmore Leonardâs relentlessly gripping classic noir is Detroit, the authorâs much-maligned hometown and the setting for many of the Grand Masterâs acclaimed crime novels. The âAlexander the Great of crime fictionâ (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) shines in these urban mean streets, setting up a downtown showdown between the psychopathic, thrill-killing âOklahoma Wildmanâ and the dedicated city copy whoâs determined to take him down. The creator of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens of TVâs Justified fame, Elmore Leonard is the equal of any writer who has ever captivated readers with dark tales of heists, hijacks, double-crosses, and murderâJohn D. MacDonald, Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain, and Robert Parker includedâand nobody then or now is better.
Elmore Leonard wrote more than forty books during his long career, including the bestsellers Raylan, Tishomingo Blues, Be Cool, Get Shorty, and Rum Punch, as well as the acclaimed collection When the Women Come Out to Dance, which was a New York Times Notable Book. Many of his books have been made into movies, including Get Shorty and Out of Sight. The short story âFire in the Hole,â and three books, including Raylan, were the basis for the FX hit show Justified. Leonard received the Lifetime Achievement Award from PEN USA and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America. He died in 2013.
