Annie Oakley was without a doubt the greatest markswoman who ever lived. Born in 1860 in Darke County, Ohio, she built herself from obscure and impoverished beginnings into the best known woman of her time. Courtney Riley Cooper (1886-1940) worked as a press agent for Wild West showman Buffalo Bill Cody and wrote The Cross-Cut, The Pioneers, and The Golden Bubble.
Jonathan Reese (d. 1999) was a founding member of Berkeley's Straw Hat review and narrator of The Executioner's Song by Norman Mailer and Travels in Alaska by John Muir.
