William Fryer Harvey was World War I hero, English writer of short stories noted for a superlative uncanny and enigmatic tales most notably in the mystery and horror genres. “Across the Moors” is a short-story, published in 1910. Mrs. Workington Bancroft sent the governess Miss Craig for a doctor to the neighbor farm through the illness of her daughter – little Peggy had a temperature of nearly a 100°F, and a pain in her side. The way to the nearby farm laid across the moors covered by darkness of the night, so Miss Craig got a move on the way.
